| Connection Solutions:
Error 1: My user name and
password are not being accepted from midsouth.com when I try to connect.
Possible Cause: Incorrect logon information. Solution: Confirm the spelling
of your user name and password, if this does not work, call Mid South's
office and a new password will be provided for you.
Error 2: I cannot connect
at 56K modem speeds (44K-53K). I have a K56 Flex compatible modem. Possible
Cause: For 56K to work, you can have at most one analog-to-digital conversion
between your home or office and midsouth.com. If there's more than one,
you can't use 56K, and your connection may be limited to 33.6Kbps speeds.
Solution: Unfortunately, this problem can only be solved by your local
phone company. Also, ask your local phone company to remove any "Digital
Voice Pads" and "Bridge Taps" on your line. These devices
are common, and reduce the integrity of any data transmissions.
Error 3: I cannot connect at 56K modem speeds (44K-53K).
I have an X2 compatible modem. Possible Cause: midsouth.com servers require
all modems to have the K56 Flex or v.90 code to connect at 56K speeds.
Solution: Contact the modem manufacturer to obtain the v.90 upgrade.
Error 4: While Browsing
the Internet, I suddenly become disconnected from the service. I have
call waiting on the same line as my dial-up connection. Possible Cause:
The Call Waiting feature is enabled. This feature allows incoming calls
to interfere with your dial-up connection. Solution: To temporarily cancel
call waiting, double-click your Internet connection in your Dial-Up Networking
window, Click the "Dial Properties" button, Check the box to
disable call waiting, Click the down arrow and select the dialing option
(usually *70) and Click OK.
Error 5: While Browsing
the Internet, I suddenly become disconnected from the service. I do not
have call waiting on the same line as my dial-up connection. Possible
Cause: Line noise due to bad connection or you have too many devices on
your phone lines or extension. Solution: Dial up again after unplugging
extra phones, fax machines, and answering machines.
E-Mail Solutions:
Error 1: Why wont my mail
send? Possible Cause: Incorrect mail server name. Solution: Check your
mail options carefully. They should be mail.midsouth.com for both outgoing
(SMTP) and incoming (POP3).
Error 2: My mail came back
returned from the Postmaster with the message "550 ... User unknown".
Possible Cause: Typos cause nearly all of the mail delivery problems.
Solution: Check your spelling or use your address book to verify the correct
spelling.
Error 3: My friend called
and said he did not receive my e-mail and my mail came back with the message
"Unable to connect to server". Possible Cause: Occasionally,
a server at the receiving end of your mail will not be working. When this
happens, midsouth.com's mail delivery system will try to send your e-mail
4 times over a period of 8 hours. After this time you will receive a notice.
Solution: Try to e-mail your friend at a later time.
Error 4: I'm using Eudora
to retrieve my Internet e-mail. Why cant I get my mail to work? Possible
Cause: Incorrect POP3 Account name. Solution: Enter yourname@mail.midsouth.com
as your "POP3 Account" in the Eudora setup.
Error 5: My friends cant
e-mail me. Ive sent them an e-mail but when they reply, it returns with
the message that user does not exist. Possible Cause: There may be a sample
"Reply-to" e-mail address in your advanced mail options. Solution:
Click "Mail" on your Internet Mail taskbar then click "Options"
| Click the "Server" tab | Make sure that the correct e-mail
address is in the "Email Address" field | Click "Advanced
Settings" | Make sure that the "Reply To" field is blank
| Click "OK" twice.
Error 6: I'm trying to send
mail using the IP address, myfriend@206.240.72.2, and I receive the following
message from the Postmaster, "Connection to 206.240.74.66 failed
No Ip address found from midsouth.com -206.240.74.66 myfriend@206.240.72.2
SMTP server tried to connect to itself". Possible Cause: Using myfriend@206.240.74.66
will not function properly on our system. Solution: Please send e-mail
using alpha characters, such as myfriend@midsouth.com
